Regulations The U.S. futures industry is regulated pursuant to the Commodity Exchange Act through the creation of the Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC). The CFTC and a self-regulatory body, the National Futures Association, regulate all exchanges, futures commission merchants, and commodity trading advisors and commodity pool operators in a manner similar to the Securities and Exchange Commission's (SEC) regulation of the securities industry.
